Prophecy is a spiritual gift that comes from the Holy Spirit and is given to the believer in Christ. According to 1st Corinthians 14, it should be done in love; eagerly desired; and done for the strengthening, encouragement, and comfort of the believer as a sign that God is really among us. This is a good chapter to study out the purpose of the gift of tongues and the gift of prophesying. Romans 12:6 says that we all have different gifts according to the grace given us. If it is prophesying, let it be done according to one's faith. Simply put, it is the believer listening and paying attention to the voice of God by faith, usually in one of 3 ways:seeing with spiritual eyes (visions or pictures), hearing with spiritual ears (words or phrases), and, or sensing the presence or mind of God (such as peace, direction, or instruction). Personal Prophetic ministry is often done during gatherings of believers such as prayer times, alter ministry at the end of regular services and special services or conferences where guest speakers are visiting the church.
